ActiveBeam Active Telescope to control the laser beam diameter

  • ActiveBeam is an active telescope to control the raw beam radius within a laser machine

Application

The reproducibility of laser material processing depends mainly on the diameter of the laser beam on the focussing optics. Any variation ofbeam diameter changes the power density in the focus and leads normally to a decrease in processing quality.

Fluctuation of the beam diameter are observed:

  • when using flying optics
  • when operating with different laser powers and after starting the laser discharge (until the optics are thermalized)
  • after increasing service life of the laser optics

In all these cases it is very difficult to ensure a constant high quality of material processing.

ActiveBeam, an intelligent telescope, helps to stabilize the laser beam diameter and to avoid undesired fluctuations.

Technical description

veBeam is integrated at the laser beam's exit. It compensates the variation of beam diameter. Finally the deterioration of the optical components can be compensated with this active televergence and ensures constant beam diameter in the whole processing area of the flying optic. Also the influence of the thermal run- in of the laser resonator optic is reduced from typical 25 % beam radius variation to 5 - 10 %. scope.

The Active Telescope is controlled by:

  • Length of the beam path
  • Time (Up- time of laser discharge)
  • Deterioration of the laser optics
